Programme Outline
“Japan-UK SYNERGY” is a research exchange programme between the Institute of Science Tokyo and world-class universities such as Imperial College London and the University of Cambridge in the UK, as partners, sending and receiving students and researchers. This programme has been selected for the 2024 ASPIRE-BBSRC Joint Call under the Advanced Science and Technology Research Initiative (ASPIRE) of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
A key feature of the programme is its emphasis on joint research between prescribed laboratories at Science Tokyo and partner universities. By deepening a mutual understanding of research and culture through exchanges at world-class universities, the programme aims to develop global human resources with outstanding scientific and technological backgrounds.
Participants, including international students and researchers, will join a supervising faculty member’s laboratory to work on research projects aligned with their fields and the faculty member’s expertise.
The BBSRC will cover travel and accommodation expenses for the UK participants, and the ASPIRE Japan-UK office will arrange accommodation to the extent possible. The applicant must obtain an appropriate visa before coming to Japan.
